PURE was created  by Kaeshi from Bellyqueen in New York City and Darshan from Gypsy Caravan in Portland. The concept has spread and there are now 15
local PURE troupes in cities throughout the United States and Japan.
PURE Richmond, which was founded in 2006, is the newest branch of PURE.

     The Richmond branch is made up of bellydancers of all sizes, ages and levels.
Our members include male and female dancers, both professionals and amateurs, with backgrounds in cabaret, American Tribal Style and fusion.

     Our drum corps is also made up of amateur and professionals who play
dumbeks, djembes and other types of hand drums. Our drummers have
backgrounds in African, Middle Eastern, and rock 'n' roll drumming and we welcome experienced and beginning drummers and musicians of all types.

     PURE Richmond is made up of members with a variety of backgrounds,
lifestyles and religions. PURE is a spiritual group but is not a religious organization. We focus on creating a sense of peace and well-being, both for ourselves and for our audience, and we seek to help make the world a better place by spreading goodwill throughout our community.
